From New York To Niger – Regina Fancher
Our little troupe must have been a sight, dressed in the Wes
t African cloth, walking through the Bronx. I noticed the man working in fro
nt of the shoe store. He was watching my friends that had just passed him, with great interest. As I approached, he asked, “Have you been to Africa?” This simple exchange began our new friendship. We learned they were from West Africa; we had friends going to a nearby village within weeks.
On our next visit allowed us to share the CDs of God’s Story (the Chronological Story of Creation to The Church). They both would say, “This is very, very important.” They felt it was so important they asked for a supply of the CDs to give to their friends and customers that come into their shop.
For more than two years now, we have visited their shop, supplied CDs, and talked about family, Africa, and God’s Story. Each visit is full of warm, easy conversation, laughter, and prayer for family and health.
On a recent visit one of our conversations led one of our friends to say, “I still don’t understand why you say, ‘Jesus is God’s Son.’”
I said, “Tell me what you know about His birth.”
He replied, “His mother did not know a man.”
I agreed, and asked, “How does that happen?”
He paused, then said, “It is a miracle.”
I smiled and asked, “Who does miracles?” He smiled and nodded as he said, “Only God can do miracles.” I smiled.
It was clear he still didn’t fully understand and while our conversation was interrupted by a visiting customer, I know that we will continue this discussion on our next visit.
Pray for our friends in New York. Pray that they move past finding things of God ‘very important’ information and come to faith in Jesus Christ, Risen Savior, Son of God.
