Breathe – Missions through Scripture

To be alive; exist; as necessary to life; the source of life.

Imagine life without oxygen.  Consider you ability to exist without the capacity to breathe.  It’s impossible.  It can’t be done.  Every breath sustains your very existence, so much so that it becomes an involuntary action and becomes second nature.  Now imagine missions without the Word of God.  Imagine the spread of the gospel without the richness of the Scripture.  It too is an impossibility because one cannot make a disciple without being a disciple.  One cannot share the gospel without knowing the gospel.  One cannot proclaim God without knowing God.  Therefore, if our missional efforts are going to become alive and vibrant, God’s Word has to be the source of their existence.   Submerging ourselves in God’s Word has to become an involuntary action, it has to become second nature.

As a result, one of our core missional values is building a foundation that leads us into a deeper knowledge and love of Him by exploring the Scriptures.   Key questions have to be asked when approaching God’s Word:

What exactly is the gospel and how does it transcend culture?
Who is God and what is His mission?
How does God’s word define mission?
What is my response?

If you want to get involved in missions at FBCA, one of the first things you can do is go through the Breathe study that explores these questions by looking at God’s Word.  Attend the four week study on Sunday morning or use the curriculum for a small group, a Sunday School class or for your mission trip teams.

Breathe deep…
